Community News from the Bigfork Community Center/Senior Citizens

Volunteers are needed!

The list of home bound senior has increased for "Meals on Wheels".  The need for drivers to serve the home bound is so important during the upcoming winter months.  Perhaps you would be available to deliver meals one day a week. Please call Rocky at 837-4157.  You may have to leave a message.  There is a need for Center volunteers also.  We need greeters at the door to welcome individuals who come for meals on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Our local seniors are important.  We want to welcome them to the Bigfork Community Center.  We are here for them.

NOTICE:  LUNCH IS SERVED STARTING 11:30 AM AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER NOW, MONDAY, WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY.  THE AGENCY ON AGING NUTRITION PROGRAM IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. SUGGESTED DONATION FOR SENIORS IS $4.  ALL OTHER ARE CHARGED $6.  THE MEALS ARE HARDY AND BALANCED.  RESERVATIONS ARE NEEDED AS THE MEALS ARE PREPARED IN KALISPELL.  CALL 837-4157 TWO DAYS BEFORE. YOU MAY NEED TO LEAVE A MESSAGE.

Bigfork Volunteer Ride Sharing

As you know Bigfork is more than 20 miles from Kalispell and it is very difficult for many individuals to get to medical appointments or shopping. In the past the Flathead County has arranged for Eagle Transportation to come to Bigfork Harvest Foods and take individuals into Kalispell. Simply put that system was not used effectively and hence was not a solution for our transportation needs. The county then stopped that program.

The approach of voluntary ride sharing is based on the notion of neighbors helping neighbors. Most of us have helped someone out by driving them from one place to another with little inconvenience to ourselves, (notice I did not say “No inconvenience.”) However, if we could have a large enough pool of potential drivers, then it is likely a person needing a ride could find someone going into town that would be willing to give them a lift and bring them home again. The rider might have to wait for a driver to finish some errands or a driver might have to wait a few minutes for a person to finish a doctor’s appointment. That seems a small price to pay.

If you are willing to be a volunteer driver, Please call the Bigfork Community Center at 837-4157 or Chris Hagar at 837-2257
